The school districts of Sun Prairie and DeForest have joined four of the 16 in the Dane County area — including Madison, McFarland, Marshall, and Mount Horeb — with plans to seek voter approval of a referendum this November, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
Sun Prairie’s school board on Monday gave the go-ahead for a $25 million recurring, operational referendum, with roughly $7 million of that amount allocated toward staff compensation and benefits above the Dane County average over the next five years; around $4 million spent on educational programming; and the other $14 million put toward ongoing budget expenses.
The DeForest School Board will seek $7.9 million in a recurring referendum to support educational programming, staff retention, and facility maintenance.
School districts have until Aug. 27 to add referendum questions to the Nov. 5 ballot.
