The third Boys & Girls Club of Dane County youth center may not open until Feb. 3, but visitors attending a pre-grand opening celebration at the McKenzie Family Boys & Girls Club were wowed, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.
The Dane County Boys & Girls Club purchased a church at 232 Windsor St. in Sun Prairie about a year ago for $1.2 million. The rest of the $3 million project has been secured through donations, loans, and grants.
The center will offer a preschool for 87 kids, a Google-funded technology room, enough programming for 190 children at a time, and Patrick Goolsby, a trained chef who will serve three meals a day plus a snack.
John McKenzie, a local developer and longtime Boys & Girls Club supporter, pledged $1 million to the project. It is the first Boys & Girls Club of Dane County youth center located outside of Madison.
