The Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center and Willy Street Co-op have canceled Fete de Marquette, scheduled for July 9–12, citing concern for the safety of attendees and event staff, according to a statement from organizers. Additionally, the Marquette Neighborhood Association has canceled the Waterfront Festival scheduled for June 13–14.
Big Top Sports & Entertainment has also canceled the Shake the Lake fireworks celebration and plans to reevaluate other options for a smaller community fireworks celebration, according to a Wisconsin State Journalreport. The event promoter said the event, originally scheduled for June 27, had grown too complex, costly, and unpredictable. At last year’s event, a shooting caused non-life-threatening injuries and resulted in panic among attendees.
