Sub-Zero worker dies in industrial accident

Fitchburg police say an employee at appliance manufacturer Sub-Zero died on Friday, Dec. 6 after becoming trapped in a piece of manufacturing equipment. According to authorities, Michael G. O’Brien, 58, died during a “routine performance” at the company.

According to a report in the Wisconsin State Journal, police officers and members of the Fitchburg Fire Rescue and Fitchrona EMS were called to the company, 6061 Basswood Drive, shortly before 8:15 p.m. Friday. The employee, who was not breathing and had no pulse, was freed by the Fire Department and pronounced dead at the scene.

No foul play is suspected and the death, which is being investigated by Fitchburg police and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), appears to be accidental.
