Study finds Wisconsin’s school system 5th-best in US

Personal-finance website WalletHub released its report on the States with the Best & Worst School Systems in 2024, comparing the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 32 key measures of quality and safety. The data set ranges from the pupil-teacher ratio and dropout rate to median standardized-test scores.

Wisconsin achieved an overall No. 5 ranking. Key rankings that contributed to the state’s place overall included:

  • Math test scores — No. 5;

  • Reading test scores — No. 15;

  • Pupil-teacher ratio — No. 21;

  • Median SAT score — No. 4;

  • Median ACT score — No. 28;

  • Percentage of licensed/certified public K–12 teachers — No. 25;

  • Percentage of threatened/injured high school students — No. 8; and

  • Existence of digital learning plan — No. 1.
