A new analysis found that the redesign of Madison’s bus system will benefit minorities and white residents in low-income neighborhoods as much as in other neighborhoods, according to a Wisconsin State Journalreport. The study by the city’s consultant, Jarret Walker and Associates of Portland, Oregon, says older adults will also benefit from the coming Metro Transit redesign, but not as much as others. The study also found that those with disabilities may benefit less than others and non-English speaking residents will benefit as much as English speakers. Critics say the city’s outreach process failed to truly engage marginalized communities and that a more in-depth equity analysis is needed to ensure riders most in need are better served by the project.
