Madison-based Stratatech has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for its StrataGraft product, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The human cell-based skin tissue StrataGraft is a skin substitute designed to heal burn wounds. In phase three clinical studies, results showed 96% of patients did not need a donor tissue harvest to heal second-degree burn wounds and a majority of patients’ wounds healed completely in the study. Additionally, there were no reports that the treatment was rejected. Stratatech is owned by the U.K. pharmaceutical company Mallinckrodt, but the FDA approval is likely to result in a boost to the Dane County economy because it will likely bring more job opportunities to the area.
