The city of Stoughton’s information technology network was shut down for days last week after officials noticed suspicious activity, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The system was shut down purposely to prevent any more harm and Stoughton officials are working to determine what exactly happened to it.

The city is confident that no employee information, resident tax information, or other personal data was lost. The attack affected the city’s emergency dispatch system but service was not interrupted because the city rerouted calls to the Dane County 911 center.
