According to NBC15, Stoughton Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are hoping to add permanent staff positions for which individuals would be trained to respond to both emergency medical and fire calls. They would act as flex staff when the department is shorthanded. The move looks to address Dane County’s rising emergency call volumes.
The city wants to create two new full-time, cross-trained personnel positions within the Stoughton Fire and EMS budget. Currently, both departments rely heavily on two full-time EMS workers, three full-time fire workers, and volunteers.
Plans in Stoughton have yet to be finalized. The positions would make an average of up to $60,000 per year. Stoughton Fire and EMS will ultimately need to receive budget approval to fill the positions; the next budget hearing will be Nov. 7.
