U.S. shares were flat Wednesday ahead of an earnings update by computer chip giant Nvidia that may give insights into the state and future of artificial intelligence, according to the Associated Press.
Futures for the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average were essentially unchanged.
Nvidia’s financial results, due later in the day, will help clarify whether markets have been buoyed by an overhyped AI bubble or a technology boom in the making.
This Friday will bring another update on inflation, the U.S. personal consumption expenditures index. Economists anticipate that it will show inflation, which remained at about 2.6% in July.
In other dealings early Wednesday, U.S. benchmark crude oil lost 5 cents to $63.20 a barrel. Brent crude, the international standard, shed 9 cents to $66.61 a barrel.
