Wall Street shares wavered Thursday, a day after markets rallied in response to a U.S.-Japan tariff agreement, the Associated Press reports. Traders are optimistic that the trade deal announced yesterday will be followed by more.
Futures for the S&P 500 added less than 0.1% before the bell, while futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average were down 0.3%.
President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on imports from several nations carry the double-edged risk of driving up inflation while slowing world economies. Many of the tariffs are on pause, however, to allow for additional tradenegotiations.
In other dealings Thursday, U.S. benchmark crude oil ticked up 90 cents to $66.15 per barrel. Brent crude, the international standard, added 84 cents to $69.35 per barrel.
