Stocks slip with tariffs soon taking effect

Wall Street headed lower in the premarket Tuesday with just over a week before many of President Donald Trump’s tariffs are set to take effect, according to the Associated Press. Futures for the S&P 500 fell 0.3%, while Dow Jones Industrial Average futures dropped 0.2%, and Nasdaq futures were down 0.5%.

Tesla shares dropped 5% overnight following disagreements between billionaire Elon Musk and Trump over the big bill of tax breaks and spending cuts.

U.S. crude oil gained 58 cents to $65.69 per barrel, while Brent crude, the international standard, added 50 cents to $67.24 per barrel.

The dollar slipped early Tuesday and is down more than 9% so far this year.
