Wall Street pointed modestly higher early Monday as investors look ahead to another busy week of corporate earnings, the Associated Press reports.
The futures for the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average each rose about 0.1% before the bell this morning following Wall Street’s close-out of another winning week last Friday, with the S&P 500 up 1%, the Dow up 0.5%, and the Nasdaq up 1.9%. Big Tech stocks led the market.
In other trading today, U.S. benchmark crude oil gained 81 cents to $81.39 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It gained 49 cents to $80.58 on Friday. Brent crude, the international standard, added 67 cents to $85.08 a barrel.
The U.S. dollar rose to 142.23 Japanese yen from Friday’s 141.01 yen. The euro was at $1.1026, up from $1.1019.
Additional reports this week will include Starbucks’ release of its third-quarter financial results after the bell on Tuesday, Amazon’s second-quarter earnings report to be issued after Thursday’s bell, and the Labor Department’s July tally of hiring by nonfarm U.S. employers to be released on Friday.
