Stocks lag with mixed corporate news

Wall Street limped early today, according to the Associated Press, with corporate earnings rolling in and the Federal Reserve’s next interest rate decision imminent. Futures for the S&P 500 and futures for the Dow Jones industrials each slipped less than 0.2% before the bell.

UPS tumbled more than 7% after the package delivery company unexpectedly dialed back expectations for the year.

General Motors climbed nearly 8% as the automaker’s profit and sales rose by double-digit percentages last year.

In other trading this morning, U.S. benchmark crude oil fell 20 cents to $76.58 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. A barrel of Brent crude, the international standard, fell 28 cents to $81.55 per barrel.

The U.S. dollar fell to 147.36 yen from 147.50 yen.
