The state Department of Revenue (DOR) forecast that Wisconsin’s manufacturing and construction employment will contract this year, WisBusiness reports. The news comes as the state’s overall labor market is still growing at a “modest but steady rate.”

Statewide job growth is expected to be focused in education and health services, leisure and hospitality and other services. The authors of the report noted that “unusually high uncertainty” is shaping economic projections as tariffs pose significant risks to the economy.

State job growth in 2024 was revised downward, from 0.9% to 0.6% for overall employment and from 0.7% to 0.4% for private employment. Total state employment is projected to increase by 0.7% this year and 0.2% next year, followed by “minimal growth thereafter,” DOR said. This is in line with national trends.
