State workers rallied at the Capitol in response to not receiving pay raises, NBC15 reports. Workers included patrol officers, teachers, and several other groups.
Over 100 days ago, Gov. Tony Evers signed the current budget into law, which included a pay raise for state employees that was set to start in July. Lawmakers, however, are waiting for the GOP-controlled Joint Committee on Employment Relations to give final approval. The delay is driving vacancies and impacting several state services.
On Tuesday, Democratic lawmakers released an update saying this approval has not yet been received. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has said pay raises for UW employees will continue to be blocked unless the university cuts diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) spending by $32 million.
