The Wisconsin unemployment rate dropped to 4.8% in February, down from 5% a month earlier, according to preliminary results from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. If the figure holds up, it will be the state’s lowest unemployment rate since July 2008.

The national unemployment rate is now 5.5%.

The BLS’s preliminary monthly reports are subject to revision and are based on data collected from just 3.5% of Wisconsin employers. Economists consider the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, which compiles data from 96% of state businesses, to be a more accurate measure of job creation.
