A program to promote sustainable manufacturing in Wisconsin will be expanded to an additional 30 manufacturers, according to the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership (WMEP).

The Profitable Sustainability Initiative, managed by WMEP and funded by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, provides assistance to small and mid-sized manufacturers to use sustainable practices.

In addition to environmental benefits in the form of reductions of 45.6 metric tons of carbon emissions and 17.3 million kilowatt-hours of energy usage, the projected financial impact of the program’s first phase, which involved 45 manufacturers, was $54 million. That included $26.9 million in cost savings and $23.5 million in increased or retained sales.

Manufacturers can obtain information about the Profitable Sustainability Initiative at www.wmep.org/PSI-Phase-II. The deadline for submitting an application is Nov. 18, 2011.
