Wisconsin collected $281.2 million less than expected in taxes for the fiscal year ending in June, which could lead to an imbalanced budget next year. Since taking office, Gov. Scott Walker and the Republican-controlled Legislature have cut taxes by nearly $2 billion. The nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau anticipated the 2% drop, but the Walker camp still insists the two-year budget will end with a surplus in 2015.
