According to the Wisconsin Policy Forum, Wisconsin’s state and local tax burden dropped slightly in 2023.
The drop represents an all-time low, “driven by property tax limits, strong income growth and modest income tax cuts,” WPF said in a statement.
State and local taxes declined 9.77% of personal income in Wisconsin in fiscal year 2023.
The decline places Wisconsin 34th nationally as far as state tax burden goes.
WPF said the decline over the last quarter-century affected taxpayer bills and money available for public services.
