State Sen. Kelda Roys on Monday launched her bid for governor, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. She joins a growing list of liberal candidates vying for the position that will be vacated when Gov. Tony Evers’ current term ends in January 2027.
Roys has served in the Legislature’s upper chamber since 2021 and formerly served a two-year term in the state Assembly.
As an attorney and small business owner, Roys ran for governor in 2018 but lost to Evers in the Democratic primary.
The gubernatorial race’s other Democratic candidates include Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and Milwaukee-area union advocate Ryan Strnad, and those expected to run include Attorney General Josh Kaul and Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. secretary and CEO Missy Hughes, who is set to step down from her role later this week.
