State’s ag exports increase 18%

Wisconsin’s agricultural exports increased 18% in 2011 compared to 2010. The state’s ag exports had a value of $2.85 billion, a record high to finish out the year, according to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. Meanwhile, overall exports increased 11.4% to a value of $22 billion. The state was ranked 16th among states with agricultural exports in 2011, up from 17th in 2010. Canada, Mexico, South Korea, China, and Japan were the largest ag export markets, and the most valuable export category was cereal grains, which include barley, corn, and wheat.

The state’s industrial machinery exports increased 8.3% year to year, with the largest increase coming from exports of construction and farm machinery, and refrigerators and freezers.
