The state’s first large-scale energy storage project — the Paris Solar-Battery Park in Kenosha County — is now providing energy for Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) customers.
The 110-megawatt (MW) battery portion of the Paris Solar-Battery Park came online this month. The 200-MW solar portion of the project went into service in December.
The storage facility is made up of batteries capable of powering more than 130,000 homes for four hours. The batteries store excess solar power and release it when the sun is not shining.
MGE owns 11 MW of the Paris facility’s battery storage and 20 MW of solar capacity. We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service, both subsidiaries of WEC Energy Group, own the remaining battery storage and solar capacity.
The project was developed by U.S.-based Invenergy, a global developer, owner and operator of sustainable energy solutions.
