The Wisconsin branch of national nonprofit Reach Out and Read, which is dedicated to promoting early childhood literacy and healthy early relationships, received a $45,000 donation from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, WMTV15 reports, which will go toward a project informing staff about the importance of diverse books.
The project, Mirrors & Windows, centers on the critical role of diverse books that reflect children’s lives and offer windows into the experiences of other people. The funding will provide 10–15 diverse books to the Reach Out and Read clinics.
The $45,000 donation to its Wisconsin branch is part of a record-setting $400,000 donation the organization received from MacKenzie Scott that supports 10 projects nationwide.
