State milk sales reach record high

A 1.7% increase in production and a higher-than-normal average milk price combined to lift state milk sales to a record $5.6 billion in 2013. According to the latest Status of Wisconsin Agriculture report, farmers earned $3.75 billion in net farm income last year, just shy of the record $3.8 billion set in 2011 and $600 million more than in 2012. The report also noted that farm debt fell 8% to $8.37 billion while total farm assets increased 8% to $75.5 billion.
