The USDA reported that about 1.27 million head of Wisconsin dairy cattle produced about 2.15 billion pounds of milk in February, up 0.3% from February 2012 but down slightly from January’s 2.37 billion pounds. Wisconsin cows averaged 1,700 pounds of milk per cow for the month. The national average was 1,772 pounds per animal. Only four states, including Wisconsin, saw year-over-year increases. California, the top milk-producing state, recorded about 3.22 billion total pounds of milk in February.
