State jobs, wages note gains

Compared to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ published data for 2015, Wisconsin added 30,235 private-sector jobs between Sept. 2014 and Sept. 2015, and third quarter private-sector quarterly wages grew by 4.9% year-over-year, according to the Quarterly Census of Employment & Wages (QCEW) as reported by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The data is based on unemployment insurance records collected from 96% of Wisconsin business establishments.

Nearly every industry reported gains over the year, including construction, which saw 4.1% growth.

The number of new business filings in the state (40,827) grew by 3.6% compared to 2014 (39,395).

2015 also saw the average weekly initial unemployment claims drop to the lowest level since 1989, and average weekly continued claims fall to the lowest levels since 1999.
