The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that Gov. Tony Evers’ emergency orders and face mask mandate were illegal when he enacted them as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The court struck down the orders stating Evers exceeded his authority by issuing multiple emergency orders in response to the same emergency.
Local municipalities and counties are still free to impose their virus restrictions, and mask mandates in Dane and Rock counties, among others, remain in place. Evers stated that the fight against COVID-19 isn’t over and while the state works to get more residents vaccinated, masks should still be worn.
