The state Department of Administration wants to demolish its Central Services Facility at 202 S. Thornton Ave. in Madison to make way for a four-story, 189,000-sq.-ft. archive preservation facility for the Wisconsin Historical Society and the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. Currently, the combined archives are valued at about $1.2 billion and are stored in various places. The state Building Commission has unanimously approved the project, but it must still go through local reviews and gain Plan Commission approval.
