The Wisconsin Department of Justice confirmed in a letter to the Wisconsin State Journal that it is investigating Community Care Resources, Inc., a Middleton foster care agency, for possible criminal activity. The state alleges the for-private child-placing agency misused taxpayer money and that owners Dan and Mary Simon overcharged counties to the tune of $6.1 million, in part to pay for excessive salaries, multiple homes, boats, vehicles, and trips. As a result of the allegations, which the Simons are denying, the state is now auditing all 24 child-placing agencies under contract with counties in Wisconsin.
