The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin approved rate increases of three Wisconsin electric utility companies to take effect in 2026 and 2027, Wisconsin Public Radio reports.
The 2026 rates will increase 13 cents a month for average electric bills from Madison Gas and Electric, and an average of about $13.50 per month for Xcel Energy customers.
Alliant Energy residents can expect an increase to electric bills of about $9.57 per month in 2026 and $17.45 in 2027. Average gas bills are estimated to rise by $1.08 in 2026 and $1.80 in 2027, compared to 2025 prices.
The energy companies cited aging infrastructure and the need to build additional power sources as reasons for the price increases.
