The entrepreneurial hub StartingBlock Madison has been pegged to anchor a larger development project in the 800 block of East Washington Avenue, which would feature two towers of commercial space — occupied, in part, by American Family Insurance — along with a city-owned parking ramp nearby, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

The project could cost more than $60 million.

Gebhardt Development is proposing constructing two buildings on the south side of the 800 block of East Washington with 240,000 square feet of space. StartingBlock would occupy the first four floors of a proposed eight-story tower. The second building, up to 12 stories tall, could include a performing arts venue and other commercial space. Housing units would not be included.

A parking ramp could be built about a block away, at Main and Livingston streets.

If all goes according to plan, officials say StartingBlock could open in the early winter of 2016.
