Staples has announced it will close as many as 225 North American stores by the end of 2015 in a plan to cut $500 million from its annual costs. The office supply retailer said nearly 50% of its sales are now generated online, further creating a need for more efficiency. The company has not announced which stores will be affected. There are two locations in the Madison area.
Meanwhile, Office Depot and Office Max recently completed a $1.2 billion merger.
