South Madison residents experiencing food insecurity can grab fresh produce Tuesday until 6 p.m. at the SSM Health South Madison campus at 1211 Fish Hatchery Road.
SSM Health and Second Harvest said in a statement they are distributing fresh fruits and vegetables to underserved south side Madison neighborhoods for the health benefits, but also due to the disruption to FoodShare, or SNAP.
The federal food insecurity program benefits will stop in three days due to the federal government shutdown and the government’s reluctance to use contingency funding for the program.
Around 700,000 people in Wisconsin rely on the FoodShare program.
