Legislation to legalize online sports betting in Wisconsin is now heading to Gov. Tony Evers’ desk, Wisconsin Public Radio reported.
Republicans who were opposed cited gambling addiction as to why they were against it. Democrats were in favor to benefit Native American tribes in Wisconsin instead of out-of-state companies.
Half of all Senate Republicans voted against the measure.
The sports betting bill only applies to bets made on computer servers located on federally recognized tribal lands.
DraftKings and FanDuel have lobbied against the plan, citing that the bill would require them to pay 60% of all revenue to tribes.
