Spirit Airlines shut down on Saturday.
NBC News reported the airline started winding down early Saturday by canceling all flights.
“To our guests: all flights have been cancelled, and customer service is no longer available,” the company said in a statement.
Spirit Airlines, known for its cheap flights, has been troubled financially since the Covid-19 pandemic, having to file for bankruptcy twice in less than a year.
It had plans to emerge from the second one but soaring jet fuel costs due to the Iran War made the endeavor too challenging.
At one point last week, a bailout by the federal government looked to be a viable option to save the airline, but Spirit’s investors didn’t like the terms of the deal, and it did not move forward.
