The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced this week that United Industries Corp. of Vinita Park, Missouri — a subsidiary of Middleton-based Spectrum Brands Inc. that makes herbicides and pesticides — has agreed to pay a civil penalty of $95,000. The action was for one of three EPA violations costing Midwest industrial manufacturers more than $400,000 in fines for allegedly violating federal air and hazardous waste standards.
