Spectrum Brands, based in Middleton, reported net income of $44.9 million (79 cents a share) on sales of $1.25 billion for the third fiscal quarter that ended June 28. That compares with earnings of $78 million ($1.47 a share) on sales of $1.13 billion for the same period last year.
Spectrum’s global batteries and appliances division had $459 million in sales for the quarter, down from $494.8 million in 2014. The company said negative exchange rates and reduced promotional activity for batteries in North America played a role in the decreased profits.
