La Crosse County District Attorney Tim Gruenke on Wednesday was appointed as the special prosecutor who will lead an investigation into, and potentially bring criminal charges for, unlawful animal cruelty at Ridglan Farms in Blue Mounds, according to the Animal Activist Legal Defense Project.
Ridglan is one of only two large breeders of dogs for experimentation in the country. Gruenke’s appointment comes as the result of a petition filed by animal advocates seeking the enforcement of cruelty laws against Ridglan.
