Madison’s Southside Elementary School will have a new, permanent principal and assistant principal next school year, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The news follows the conclusion of an investigation into the school’s former leadership.
District officials removed former principal Candace Terrell and assistant principal Annabel Torres last October after staff and parents of students accused the two of bullying and mismanagement. They had remained on the district’s payroll while an interim principal and assistant principal took over their duties at Southside.
District Superintendent Joe Gothard said in an email to Southside families Wednesday that the school’s current leadership team “will select a group of staff, parents, teachers and community members” to participate in a panel that, in collaboration with district human resources, will select a new principal.
Another email set to go out to families would ask about the qualities they would like to see in the new leadership.
