Sonic Foundry posts loss, announces acquisitions

For the fiscal fourth quarter ending Sept. 30, Sonic Foundry had a net loss of $666,000 (17 cents/share) on revenues of $6.8 million. A year ago, its fourth fiscal quarter resulted in a net loss of $103,000 (3 cents/share) on revenues of $6.2 million.

For its full fiscal year, the company reported a net loss of $792,000 (20 cents/share) on revenues of $27.8 million. That compares to $157,000 in earnings (4 cents/share) and revenues of $26.1 million in 2012.

The company also announced that it plans to purchase Netherlands-based MediaMission for just under $1.5 million. MediaMission was founded as a Sonic Foundry partner in 2004 and has been distributing Sonic’s Mediasite technology throughout Europe. Sonic Foundry will also purchase the rest of the shares of Mediasite K.K., a company that distributes Mediasite throughout Japan, for $5.85 million. The acquisitions are expected to be completed soon.
