Madison Mayor Paul Soglin vetoed a liquor license request from State Street pizzeria Lotsa Stone Fired Pizza, 506 State St., saying the request is “inconsistent” with his position to add new liquor licenses where none previously existed, according to The Capital Times.

The City Council, which earlier approved the license on the condition the restaurant stop selling alcohol at midnight, will consider the matter at its Sept. 6 meeting.

Fourteen votes (two-thirds) would be required to override the mayor’s decision.
