While final approvals for a plan to redevelop Judge Doyle Square continue to stall, Mayor Paul Soglin is proposing a piecemeal approach that would allow some of the work to begin before negotiations with developer JDS Development are complete. According to a Wisconsin State Journal report, Soglin will include in his upcoming 2015 capital budget a proposal to renovate the Madison Municipal Building and replace the Government East parking garage next year. Negotiations with JDS recently hit a snag when it was revealed that the project would require approximately $47.2 million in public funds, an amount the city reportedly thought was too high.
