Madison Mayor Paul Soglin has proposed fining businesses that run air conditioning while keeping their doors and windows open in a move, he says, to fight climate change.

According to a Wisconsin State Journalreport, an initial fine would be $50 and could increase to $250 or more for multiple offenses.

The Madison City Council is expected to consider the ordinance tonight (Jan. 8).
