Madison Mayor Paul Soglin said he thinks the vote on the proposed Judge Doyle Square development that would bring the headquarters of Exact Sciences downtown will be close.

Soglin offered his opinion during a Rotary Club of Madison luncheon at the Alliant Energy Center on Wednesday, stating seven alders support the project, eight are opposed, one will abstain, and four remain undecided.

According to the Cap Times, Soglin would not name the four undecided council members but he noted it would be difficult to get three of them to vote yes.

The final vote on the development agreement with JDS Development and Exact Sciences has been moved back several times and is now scheduled for Sept. 29.

The proposed project featuring Exact Sciences’ headquarters along with parking, a hotel, commercial space, and more is expected to cost $200.7 million. Public funding could cover one-third of that cost.
