Madison Mayor Paul Soglin is reportedly considering a run for the state’s top job next year, citing the state’s enthusiastic support for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders in 2016.

Soglin, a self-proclaimed “democratic socialist,” was a delegate for Sanders at the 2016 Democratic National Convention and says he’s been hearing words of support from outside Dane County, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

If Soglin won the Democratic nomination, he’d likely challenge Gov. Scott Walker in November 2018.
