A proposed six-story apartment building on Winnebago Street has been put on the backburner as the development plan conflicts with land use recommendations in Madison’s Comprehensive Plan.
Simply put, it’s too big for the city’s recommendations, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
Apex Property Management and Walter Wayne Development had initially planned for about 162 apartments, 180 enclosed parking stalls and space for a cafe or coffee shop at the intersection of Winnebago and Merry streets, just east of the Yahara River.
The development company said they will wait for the comprehensive plan to change before pursuing the project again, with the plan set to be updated in 2028 and 2029.
