The Wisconsin State Journal reports that an owner of a two-story apartment building and two houses on Winnebago Street east of the Yahara River wants to demolish the existing structures to develop a six-story apartment building.
About 50 neighbors who live near the proposed development opposed the plan during a meeting on Tuesday.
The plan from Apex Property Management and Walter Wayne Development includes 162 apartments and 180 parking stalls at the site. The structure would be a combo of bottom-level parking, townhouse-style units and apartments on higher levels.
Much of the opposition was due to neighbors concerned about added traffic on the one-block, dead-end street, and the apartment rates of the new units possibly pricing families out.
