Sierra Nevada Corp., headquartered in Nevada but with space system operations in Colorado, has announced plans to purchase Orbitec (aka Orbital Technologies Corp.) of Madison. The two companies have been working together for several years.
Orbitec, which has about 80 employees in the Madison area, supplies environmental and life support systems for outer space projects. Sierra Nevada produces advanced rockets and spacecraft and is currently working on a Dream Chaser vehicle to transport astronauts to the International Space Station and back.
Terms were undisclosed, but a quick acquisition is expected.
