Short Stack Eatery, a breakfast spot located at 301 W. Johnson St., will close its doors in May 2025 after 10 years in business, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. Owners Alex Lindenmeyer and Sinead McHugh announced the decision on Facebook, saying they plan to pursue a new venture in a different industry.

Known for its weekend morning lines out the door, Short Stack opened in 2014 as an all-night breakfast restaurant before transitioning to daytime hours. The co-owners, friends from Edgewood High School, expressed gratitude to staff, suppliers, community partners, and customers, writing, “We are because of YOU.”

The pandemic left the restaurant with significant debt, despite two GoFundMe campaigns in 2020 and 2023 that raised nearly $100,000 combined. Rising costs, including $14,000 in monthly occupancy expenses and annual rent increases, compounded financial challenges.

Details about the owners’ next venture will be shared in future updates. Until then, they plan to “go out strong” and serve customers through May.
